Going on a diet doesn't reduce risk of illness unless you keep it off

It's one of probably the most often-touted reasons to lose weight – it reduces your risk of disease. A risk factor of illness is lots of money spent on diet programs. Disease chance does not always go down with a diet program, though. Don’t just take out a payday loan and buy into these plans, do a little research first. Diet packages and illness chance

It’s a well-known fact that losing weight helps you be healthier. When losing pounds, you also lose risk of illness. These contain cancer, high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke and heart disease. Diet packages are often touted as a way to lose pounds and reduce this risk. Generally, diet programs don't help you keep the weight off. You end up gaining it all back afterwards. In the Journal of Obesity, almost all people who followed a diet program lost at least some weight — and then put it back on within a few years.

Avoiding yo-yo going on a diet

Many people will lose weight and gain it back when the diet is over. This is called yo-yo dieting. Generally, more weight is gained than is lost by somebody who utilizes many different diet programs. That means they are even more at risk for health problems. Diet plans may not help you at all. They might increase the risk that you have. An even higher chance of health problems could easily take place for the whole nation since over 73 percent of Americans are considered overweight or obese.

The only way a diet can help

The only way to be successful in a diet program is to stay away from "diet programs." The most successful way to do it would be to change your lifestyle totally including diet, exercise and environment. It can be really hard to make a lifestyle change even though it’s required. Some diet programs can really increase disease risk by cutting out helpful nutrients or encouraging unhealthy eating — so lifestyle changes are the only healthy way to go.
