Anna Chapman was the Russian spy who fascinated America, but perhaps there’s a new spy from the Baltic States ready to take over. Anna Fermanova, a 24-year-old native of Latvia, has fascinated Facebook fans and allegedly stolen military-grade hardware. Fermanova is alleged to have sent a military grade Raptor 4X Night Vision Weapons sight to her husband in Moscow unlawfully, reports the New York Daily News. Fermanova was arrested at her parents’ suburban Dallas home July 15, approximately a month after her most recent trip to Moscow to visit her husband. Anna Fermanova’s case ‘looks a lot worse than it really is,’ claims legal representative
”She’s a nice Jewish girl who lives with her sweet Latvian mother and father. There is no terrorism link. There’s no espionage,” claims Scott Palmer, Anna Fermanova’s lawyer. However, an informant whose name has not been revealed reportedly tipped immigration off as to Fermanova’s smuggling. When federal agents stopped her at Kennedy Airport in New York before she boarded her Moscow-bound flight, they found a $ 7,000 Raptor 4X Night Vision Weapons Sight in Fermanova’s suitcase, also as two other night vision sights worth $ 4,000 each, as outlined by records.
The Daily News writes that Fermanova explained that the scopes were merely for her husband’s hunting ventures. The agents asked her if she knew it was illegal to take such military grade hardware out of the country, and her response was that she had signed some form of paperwork but was unsure exactly what the paperwork stated. It didn’t happen to be an exporter’s license; that much is clear.
Fermanova admits she obscured the serial numbers
Fermanova admitted to officials that she’d obscured the serial numbers on the scopes purposely. Investigating agents didn’t believe Fermanova was telling the whole truth she said that she did that simply to make the serial numbers “less noticeable”. When the authorities did allow Fermanova to go to Moscow without the scopes, they later took her passport and imprisoned her when she returned to America. The charge was “knowingly and intentionally attempting to export defense articles on the United States Munitions list”. That carries a 10-year prison term, indicates the Daily News. At this moment, Anna Fermanova is under house arrest in her parents’ home, which was made possible when $ 50,000 bail was posted.
Once a check forger
Seven years ago, Anna Fermanova was placed under arrest for a $ 76 check forgery. The former cosmetology student and English teacher was fined and sentenced to 3 years of probation. Speaking of beauty school, Fermanova’s Facebook popularity was largely built off photographs taken during her time in cosmetology. Fermanova’s sexy photographs bring to mind the photos of Anna Chapman, which also drew their share of attention from the online passerby.
