Viewers observing a Bavarian Motor Works advertisement had a Bavarian Motor Works emblem imprinted on their retinas with a flash they could see after shutting their eyes. Producers say the ad uses an after-image of the BMW brand to “literally get inside people’s heads.”. They even talked about the technique. They said a "harmless photo flash" was being used. Xaus says to the audience, "I am living my dream. ‘What dream?’ you ask. Just close your eyes and look deep inside yourself. Maybe it’s your dream too. It is in you.” Then the BMW logo is projected. This is for the audience. All they notice is an indiscernible flash. Xaus then says “Close your eyes and you will see it.”

Audience members were amazed, despite being guinea pigs for an overtly subliminal marketing technique. Numerous wonder if burning the BMW logo into retinas at films is even safe. The Profoto Pro07B flash only lasts from 1/3,000 to 1/400 of a second, but it cranks out intensely bright light. Everyone knows looking at the sun isn’t a good idea and could be hazardous to the eyesight. Also, seizures are caused by brief, bright flashes of light like that.
