Muslim holiday season consist of November sixteen stoning of the Devil practice

Muslim holiday season draw a sharp distinction among the cultures of the west and Islam. November 16-19 marks the Muslim holiday of "Eid al-Adha. While a western holiday for instance Christmas celebrates consumer spending and other forms of excess, Eid al-Adha celebrates the “stoning of the Devil”.

Eid al-Adha Muslim holiday

The upcoming Muslim holiday season includes Eid al-Adha, followed by the Islamic New Year on Dec. 7 and Ashura on Dec. sixteen. The Jamarat Pillars had pebbles thrown at it by the millions of Muslim pilgrims that descended on the Mina valley in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday. In his obedience to Allah, Abraham resisted the devil's temptation to try and convince him out of killing his only son Ishmael, which is what the act symbolizes. Supposedly Abraham threw rocks at Satan so that he would go back to Hell and give up on what he wanted.

Pilgrims want to have stoning of the devil remade

Hagar was Abraham's wife. She asked that Abraham not kill Ishmael as commanded. Ishmael was not thrilled about this either. The devil in the Eid al-Adha ritual is represented with three Jamarat Pillars. The largest pillar represents the devil trying to tempt Abraham into disobeying Allah. The second represents Hagar. It is because the devil tempted her to make an effort to stop him. The third represents the devil tempting poor Ishmael to plead for his life instead of dutifully submitting to being murdered for the satisfaction of Allah.

Muslim holiday season dangerous

Muslim holiday seasons have been known to trigger lethal situations. To get to the Jamarat Pillars, an immense crowd of Muslim pilgrims, which gets larger every year, must cross the Jamarat Bridge. The stoning of the devil ritual has become almost extremely hard to control, and on several occasions hundreds of Muslim pilgrims have been suffocated or crushed. In recent years, Saudi authorities have expanded the Jamarat Bridge to five levels in an effort to cut back the potential for carnage. Large walls replace the Jamarat Pillars now. This was done in a try to get the devil-stoners by means of with more at a time.
