World Toilet Day - The Big Squat for sanitation

It may seem like the fodder for humor, but November 19th has been marked as World Toilet Day. World Toilet Day, sponsored by the World Toilet Organization, is a day to raise awareness for proper sterilization. Money invested in proper sanitation shows benefits in almost each social group. The issue is for more than just health.

World Toilet Day remembrance for all

The beginning of World Toilet Day wasn't that long ago. 2001 had been when it started. About 2.6 billion people throughout the world don’t have access to correct sanitation. Sanitation being out of peoples' lives kills people. 1.8 million each and every year are killed due to this. Lack of proper sanitation leads to infection and also the death of more than 5,000 people a day in lesser-developed countries. Kids and women are those affected by the lack of sanitation most often. In order to encourage awareness of open defecation in third-world countries and to get donations for better sanitation across the world, "The Big Squat" was organized along with World Toilet Day.

How the economy is changed because of World Toilet Day being celebrated

The lack of sanitation is what World Toilet Day is supposed to be showing. For every $1 invested in improved sanitation in disadvantaged communities and countries, there is an average $9 return in economic impact. Proper sanitation is often one of the first things to be damaged during natural disasters. The widespread cholera outbreak is happening in Haiti as a result of the lack of correct sanitation.

World Toilet Day causing numerous concerns to be discussed

Correct sanitation being shown to people is what World Toilet Day is all about. Controversy will surround it just like every little thing else though. Water or “flush” toilets are often considered the standard of sanitation in the U.S., but that does not mean they are the “best” sanitation. About 30 % of all water usage comes from the toilets being flushed. You can save a lot of water an money with composting toilets and waterless toilets. They also help keep disease under control if used within the right way too.
